Real Madrid forward Carlos Espí has received his first senior call-up to the Spain national team. He replaces the injured Ferran Torres, who has been ruled out with discomfort in his left ankle, for the two Nations League fixtures.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation made the decision to release Torres following a medical assessment. "Given the persistence of the symptoms, it has been decided to release the player from the squad in order to prioritize his recovery," the federation said. Manager Luis de la Fuente then chose to call up Spain Under-21 international Carlos Espí to take the vacant spot.
Espí arrives in fine form after scoring five goals for the U-21 side in their 0-13 rout of San Marino in qualification for the 2027 European Championship. His call-up comes with La Roja on a four-game winning run, their latest result a 1-2 victory in Croatia on October 6.
Spain will face the Czech Republic on Saturday, October 3 at 8:45 PM CEST at the Carlos Tartiere stadium in Oviedo, broadcast on La1. They then travel to Split to play Croatia on Tuesday, October 6 at the same time. The next official fixture is an away trip to face the Czech Republic on November 12, a match already listed in our fixtures.
