Spain wraps up its Chattanooga stay ahead of the Austria match

Spain completed its final training session in Chattanooga on Tuesday and heads to Los Angeles for the last tweaks before the World Cup 2026 clash with Austria. Víctor Muñoz trained without issue, while Luis de la Fuente has only two clear absentees.

What happened during the training session?

On the morning of July 8, the coaching staff ran the routine on the grass at Baylor School. Víctor Muñoz, who had suffered hamstring discomfort, finished the drill unrestricted, a key step for the squad. Meanwhile, the two injured players, Nico Williams and Yeremy Pino, continued their rehab away from the group.

Why do these absences matter?

Williams, the Athletic winger, carries a right‑adductor muscle strain; Pino, from Tenerife, suffers an acromioclavicular sprain. Both will miss the Austria showdown and could lose valuable speed and creativity in the group stage. Their absence forces De la Fuente to reshuffle the left flank and attack options.

What’s next for Spain?

After 25 days in Chattanooga, the squad will fly to Los Angeles on the afternoon of July 8. There they will start the final preparation phase, training at the University of Southern California campus. The roster includes goalkeepers Joan García, David Raya and Unai Simón; defenders Pau Cubarsí, Eric García and Aymeric Laporte; midfielders Gavi, Pedri and Rodri; and forwards Lamine Yamal, Ferrán Torres and Mikel Oyarzabal. Spain aims to fine‑tune its system before the Austria clash scheduled for June 20 in Los Angeles.
